About the Retreat
Come join myself and Experience Slovakia for a 6 day retreat in the beautiful area around Poprad and High Tatra Mountains in Slovakia, to discover new places, have new experiences, meet new friends and, of course, practice and improve your English.
One of the reasons why people learn English is to meet new people, travel and explore the world and this retreat focuses on that; communication and exploration.
Over the course of 6 days, you’ll learn about the local area and culture, taste local cuisine and hike in the beautiful nature of the surrounding areas. Each day will start with an informal language input session, followed by excursions to different areas in the vicinity. While the week will have many activities to take part in, you’ll also have time to slow down and relax.
Niva, Learn English with Niva
Jan and Lilian, Experience Slovakia
This small retreat will be led by myself, Lilian and Jan. Both myself and Lilian are experienced English language teachers (and good friends) who love helping people achieve their potential, both in language learning but also in life. Lilian and Jan are married and together have created Experience Slovakia, a tourism company based in the Tatra Mountains. Jan is an experienced and qualified tour guide with an excellent knowledge of the local area and culture, while Lilian has a degree in tourism. The three of us have been speaking for many years now about creating a language retreat together and we’re excited that it can finally happen.
There are only 8 places available on this retreat, which will ensure that you have plenty of 1 to 1 time with myself, Lilian and Jan, to speak with us and ask any questions you might have.
We’re looking forward to meeting you and creating some wonderful memories together.
Accommodation
During the retreat you’ll be staying in a self-contained apartment, shared with 1 other, with beautiful mountain views in the area of Nova Lesna in the High Tatras. Each apartment is newly built and comfortably furnished, with a bathroom and small kitchenette.
Nova Lesna is a traditional small village located close to the city of Poprad and also the popular ski areas of Starý Smokovec and Tatranská Lomnica, which puts it in prime location to easily explore both the city and nature during the retreat.
Excursions
Hiking in nature – 4 hour hikes in the High Tatra mountains
Discover Poprad – city tour of Poprad, famous for its picturesque historic centre
AquaCity – soak and relax your body after a hike in the indoor and outdoor thermal pools at AquaCity.
Local wine and beer tasting – enjoy tasting wine and beer from the region

Who we are
Niva is an experienced English language teacher whose goal is to help as many English learners enjoy their language learning journey and she’s realised that one of the best ways to learn and improve is through a relaxed and supportive environment. This retreat is a combination of many things that she loves; teaching, travel and fabulous company.
Experience Slovakia is a tourism company run by Lilian and Jan, a couple who love travelling and meeting new people. Lilian is also an experienced English language teacher (who met Niva when they were both working for the same language school in London) and her husband Jan grew up in the Poprad area of Slovakia and so is able to share his knowledge of the local culture and language, as well as all the hidden gems of the surrounding areas.
